Stock monsoon subwoofer...anyone have details on it?

I am trying to upgrade my subwoofer and want to keep my stock amp. I have searched and looked everywhere but can't get a definitive answer on the actual specs of the stock monsoon subwoofer. I know it's an 8" sub and have seen someone that said it was a dual coil but I'd like to confirm that and what the ohm is on it. I'm guessing it's 8ohm but would like to find out for sure before buying the wrong one.

Anyone know what the stock sub specs are or can point me in the right direction? As always, any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

I know that jL audio makes a stealth box that fits in the same space but it has to have a new amp i think.

I replaced mine with another sub (rockford/fosgate I think) bought from someone on this forum (or the last version of it... ).The holes didn't quite match but I got it installed just fine. I can check the specs on the OEM one tonight.

Thanks Reaper please let me know when you have a chance to look at it. That would help a ton.

I'm trying to stay away from the stealth box and the $500 price tag. From what I've read it's not that good and way overpriced.

Not sure what a DMM is Corey, so I definitely don't have one haha.

Your the man, Corey. Thanks buddy. When I was searching i saw someone that said it was DVC 8 ohm and another that said DVC 4 ohm so just wanted to make sure.

Reaper, maybe you can confirm that it is 4 ohm when you have time to look at the back of your stock one? That way we can 100% confirm what Corey found for me.

Hey Reaper can you also see how deep the woofer is. I'm guessing it needs to be shallow to fit into the stock area.

Bit off topic but still related, how does the stock monsoon location plastic panel come off??? Is it just push in clips?

Ok, I looked at the speaker yesterday-- there are no labels on it, so I can't help you with specs. :( My wife was also in the middle of cleaning the garage, when I went back later I couldn't find it. I would say it's about 4" deep, which seems typical for that size speaker. It's not low-profile or anything, it's got a nice deep enclosure to sit in.

As far as removing it-- you need to remove that back quarter panel, which is kind of a pain. I left the front of it attached and just reached under. From there, you just unhook the speaker conection and unscrew about 8-12 philips screws that hold in the speaker. It's pretty easy actually.

I found out the details on the sub from another forum member from hummer forums. He knows for a fact that it is an 8" DVC 2ohm. I have exchanged several emails with him and he just swapped his out. Figured I'd share for future reference.

That *should* work... while we're at it-- what about the specs on the other speakers? Are they standard ohms or specialized for the monsoon? Can we drop any old Pioneer speakers that fit in there, or do we need something specific? My front speakers are blown pretty bad... :)

You should get a better sub than that if you are going to replace the stock one. I am looking at this one for myself, which is only $20 more than the one you posted.

Reaper, I have been looking for speakers to replace mine and am about to pull the trigger on these for the front:

From what I've read both front and rear are 6.5. Now just need to decide on a reasonably priced amp to power everything...any suggestions?

Really dumb question, but what makes one better then the other? How do I know? What should I look for? I'm looking to replace all of my speakers to use the stock system... If I do this, can I upgrade the head unit later and still use the stock amp and new speakers?

After looking into the one you sent a link for, it is actually a very good sub. I had never heard of it but I read up on it and may grab that one myself.

Bumping this thread, I know it's been awhile. Today I discovered while jamming that my sub is blown. I put my ear close to all of my other speakers and they're fine, the sub is the one making the noise. I want to get the rockford fosgate sub you posted a link to or maybe the other one that was linked. Is it just plug and play? Like if I get either of those can I just take out the stock one and do the replacement without too much extra work? A little help is much appreciated. Also, can I just reach my fingers under the side panel and pull it to remove? I don't want to break any of the plastic things to where it won't re-attach.

im with michro on this one, could anyone provide details or photos on how to remove the plastic side panel to gain access to the subwoofer? I tried the other day and I didnt want to break anything so i left it alone. I want to put in a new sub so it hits harder and louder!

Did you start from the bottom left? From what I've found, you can unscrew the seat belt holder for the back driver side seat, then take the top panel off and from there easily remove the bottom panel completely.
