The prices for 223 are ridiculous. That is why you are seeing more of it. Only the idiots are paying 1.00/round. I paid .54/round last I bought and almost didn't do that. The good prices online sell out in minutes. There are software programs that will alert you when websites change and I know a lot of people have every online ammo seller dialed in.
.04/round for 22 LR is about normal. I would buy all I wanted at that price. I picked up 625 rounds of 22LR yesterday at .07/round.

I turned down a case of 1000 rounds of .223 six weeks ago at a local store for $499. I'm rethinking my decision! A friend used to supply me with Black Hills .223 duty ammo that was past it's one year shelf life and it was free, he retired and I'm down to about 1,400 rounds.

Im signed up with most of the online retailers for quick purchase availability and have an inventory alert program running when I'm stuck in my office. Sometimes the good deals are gone in 3-5 minutes. This ammo issue may just go on for quite a while yet, we'll see.

Can't say this is accurate but highest number I found for ammo production capacity by the US ammo manufacturers was 12 billion rounds/year. At 50 rounds per box that is 20 million boxes a month. That would mean the 1 in 5 US gun owners could buy a box each month. That does not count foreign producers. Still doesn't sound right to me. Anybody have any better numbers? If that is true ammo could be in short supply for awhile.

but remember the good ol days when 1,000 rounds of .223 was $99 and 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 for around $60-70........I haven't bought ammo since the prices jumped and never will. I'll keep the stockpile I have. $500 for 1,000 rounds of .223 is absolutely ridiculous and anyone to pay that should turn in their firearms because they're not in the right frame of mind.

$.50/round for .223 is much better than quitting hunting altogether if that is the choice that needs to be made.

I never said to quit hunting. I'm talking about going out and blowing crap up or target shooting-just going out to have a good time. When ammo is that expensive its not even a good time thinking about the dollar bills flying out of the barrel.

My son and I spent a day shooting at Ben Avery last month. That's really a nice shooting complex you guys have down there!

It is a very nice facility, used to be even nicer though. They have a big bore range that goes up to 1 mile, handgun only range, 300 yard ranges, and a skeet course that goes through the desert. The only thing is when idiots are there and the range officers are constantly screaming CEASE FIRE!

We drove across the big bore range as the gates are open when it is not in use. It was a creepy feeling. We shot skeet and trap with some local elderly gentlemen we met while there. They had a great time ganging up on my son coaching him. Good times.

Got some russian bimetal .223 for $6/20, picked up as many as I could. Also got some CCI 22LR for $9/100.

Picked up 2 more AR-15 receivers today, gave one to a friend of course being California it's a complicate procedure to do something that simple :p

I'll have to take the Hummer out to Gorman/Fraiser area and check out the shooting ranges out in that part of the woods. Some of them are 4x4 access only and not very crowded at all.

Just got over 4000 rounds of 22 LR, too bad I only have 200-300 rounds of .223. :(

Picked up one of these today, waiting for it to get out of jail in 10 days then my 22LR count is going to go down a fair bit.

wow the STG is pretty awesome but after pulling up their site you mentioned I can't believe its $600......I'd rather pick up an Auto Ordinance M1 Carbine for that price!

Seeing what they get for M1 Carbine ammo these days don't think I will be shooting mine anytime soon. It is easy to burn up a lot of 22 in a hurry.

Yeah an M1 isn't on my list yet. ATI's guns are all over the place but I talked to a few folks who have the real stg44 rifle and the ATI 22 version and they liked it a lot. It'll give me something fun to shoot.

I have to go out and get a few more 22/45 magazines this week, I'm shooting my first Steel match this sunday in 22 :)

The supply of .223/5.56 ammo has really opened up, tons for sale online and most well under a dollar. All of the $.50 and under sell out pretty quick unless it's Russian steel ammo. It seems .22 is still the hardest to get at any kind of a good price.

I agree, looks like a ton of the blue/white box Independence ammo from israel flooded the stores here, which is good, prices aren't pre-panic yet but they're down.

.22 LR is still rare, havent been shooting it lately, sitting on about 3000 rounds.

Looks like the rifle shortage is pretty much over unless you want to order something custom. Went to AZ, NV and a few stores here during the past 2 weeks and most of the stores were fully stocked all calibers, everything from low cost colts and deltons all the way up to La Rue tacticals in stock.
