Questions for Plastikote appliers

Does Plastikote bond well on the wheels and grille without roughing the surface?

How many spray cans are needed per wheel for two coats?

Has anyone had it on for a year or more? Does it hold up pretty well?

If chipped, does it start to peel?

Does it really strip off easily if you want to reverse it? (When chrome eventually comes back into style.)

Yes, please do not rough up the surface. That's part of the beauty of the product. When you get tired of it you can peel it off to reveal the original surface. And I must say it adhere's really well considering you do not prep the surface (besides a wash)

I would recommend 4 - 5 cans for your wheels. You will want to apply many many many light coats so that in the end you have one thick coat covering the entire wheel. IT will make it stronger and easier to peel off should you need to in the future.

I recommend, at the very least, buying one can and trying it on something in your garage. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure you do light coats as it can run like paint.

This sounds like Plastidip. Isn't Plastikote something else?

In that case....... when using plastikote... follow the instructions on the can. :) sorry, I don't really know anything about that stuff.

What I was talking about is PlastiDip. (Made right here in MN about 20 miles away from my house)

I have noticed on my wheels that once it gets a chip you have to cut around it with a razor blade and repaint because it wants to peel.. I had to do that when i had my wheels balanced. I love the look and texture of them and the fact I can go back to silver if I want. Other than the wheel balance issue I like the look and texture. Keep in mind it is a rubber surface and little bit harder to clean than the painted surface

Plastidip for the win!!

I did my emblems and windshield pillar trims in them and they have held up really well. Possibly the best solution for those who dont want to make a permanent change to the vehicle with paint or something product!!

I think I meant Plastidip, but will use whatever works best without sanding. :emb:

Times, uhhh 6 I think on the Plastidip!

Great stuff, no sanding, easy to remove when you want to. Just be a little careful if you use the carwash. I had a corner start to peel off after a wash. Jst resprayed a few more coats and it was just fine!!

06 H3 posted this link in one of the other PlastiDip threads. Shows how it has held up after 7 years.

This answers my question to durability. It looks pretty damn good for 7 years of abuse on a truck and the alabama humidity! Im in on this stuff now
