I am the H3 driver. The next time we all went out there we all made it with no problem. The first time I went I just got the lift the day before and was not used to it. I also was trying to take it easy on the new lift. Sorry for the bad hummer publicity.

I get the hummer sucks **** all the time...whatever, I am over it. Honestly, at the end of the day I dont mind jeeps the JK is really cool...The problem I have with jeeps is not the actual vehicle it is the jeep owner mentality. I think there is a reason that hummer guys who switch over to JK's still wheel with us. For the most part we are down to earth cool people unlike most jeep owners...most are pricks.

Also some of these jeepers dont realize that IFS and a solid axle require different wheeling and lines that a straight up an over type approach. just watch the vid of the stock H3T going up hells gate with no problem at all.

Notice the Jeepers never post pictures of Hummers successfully completing obstacles. As it is many times with Jeep owners most bad Hummer videos are with new owners or novice drivers. I have seen countless examples of new Jeep owners or novice wheelers not being able to take easy obstacles in their Jeeps. Of the times I have recovered Jeeps we have never taken video or taken photos and posted them anywhere. I have had the Jeep guys thank me for that and say that they knew their group would never miss an opportunity to post the photos if the situation were reversed...ie the mindset/maturity of the different groups. Keep traveling the high road.

For every video of a Hummer failing I bet we could find ten of Jeeps failing.

As you do more wheeling you'll find it isn't about the vehicle being driven but the people inside that drive those vehicles. Black Sheep Week and many other H4O gatherings proudly features Jeep drivers like Silverton, TX Mike and Timgco, along with Disco driver ajk150.

Jeep guys need to spend time in a Hummer on the highway...everyday.
Hummer guys need to spend time offroading in a Jeep...on a weekend.

Once you do this, you'll understand why you can't really compare the two. The H3 is NOT a rockcrawler. The Jeep is not a highway cruiser. They both do their job exactly as they should. I wheel with many Jeep guys, and they are blown away when they drive an H3 on the highway. Its most unfortunate that Hummer is gone. Who knows what 50 years of development would've done to the H3? I guess we'll never know.

BTW...I got pile of broken IFS parts, and a solid axle under my H3 now. Its a carbon copy of a Jeep 3-link. Just sayin.

I agree...with some reservations. The H3 is comfortable, quiet and relatively economical cruiser. You can't drive a Wrangler 500 miles at 75 without a taking a day to recuperate. And the more wheeling mods, the worse they get on the highway. I remember following a Jeep around a u-turn at an intersection and seeing the guy in the Jeep do a double take when my H3 turned a full lane inside him. I have yet to see an H3 on a trailer behind a "driver". I get very irate at Jeepers who load their rigs to the gills with $$$ mods then jeer at a bone stock H3s that can stay with them on all but the most extreme trails...without beating the occupants to a pulp.

We use the H3 to explore backroads and trails; not hard core wheeling. I think its the best 4x4 around for anywhere near the money.

No, you r not sorry for that. Its just like we cant let a baby to bite a candy. I already got stock 4 times. It was all my fault, Im a beginner, but im not afraid of failing on a trail. I like challenges even if that means breaking my H3.

I have talked with others who have gone from one jeep to another to another over the years and in the past 30 years they have gotten better and better on the road. Is a JK as nice on the highway? I would say no comparing to the 08 my brother has...Rockcrawling its a monster. With over 30 years the jeeps have evolved(from CJs-YJs-TJs-JKs)...I wish the H3 had 30 years of production, Im sure within 30 years it would be a monster rockcrawler and a highway cruiser. I feel I have done some tough trails including rockcrawling and gotten it done...maybe not as easy as a jeep but got through it all. With the solid axle swap do u feel it will retain the nice riding characteristics of the H3 or will it lose that for the gains of rock crawling capability?

I have always had the mindset of why compromise? Why should you settle for a off road monster with ****ty handling or a highway cruiser that can do pretty well off road. For me personally I will always strive to make the H3 better off road while maintaining the great Daily driver aspects it has.

No doubt in my mind, I am losing some practical drivability. I'm giving up independent A-arms, rack & pinion, and a tight turning radius....at the very minimum. On the other end of the spectrum...I hope to get a suspension that will stay together, and a gear ratio that will make 37"s possible. Unlike Bebe or Recon's builds...I'm trying to keep things very "mild", and frankly...sort of boring. I do not want to mess with half-shafts or coil-overs or other chassis items. Gimmie a proven design that is sturdy and some grease fittings...thats all I want. I was very pleased with the stock H3 off-road performance, and if I could've found a feasible way to upgrade the IFS...I would have. I'm not after mega-flex or high-travel. I just want a rig that won't break so easily. I'm hoping I can hang with built TJs and JKs when I'm done.

Absolutely...no trailer. Ever.

I knew a guy from another car forum that went and bought a Rubicon and thought he was all that and a box of lugnuts..He took a trip from Maryland to the Rockies somewhere and then back via the South coast and ended up getting both hips replaced a year later..just sayin.

The thing I love the most about my Hummer? ...Is that it ain't a Jeep!
