Hi everyone i know i am new here but i thought i would share what i have been doing recently in case someone else would want to do this too. I wanted a way i could attach my winch so i could take it on and off and also wouldnt mess with the approach angle, so this is what i came up with. ive only seen one other one on an H3 and that was the white MOAB H3 the only problem was it stuck out pretty far and i didnt like the looks of it so i Fabed my own! it wasnt as hard as i expexted, i did it in a tiny military garage. I used 1/4in plates and 2 1/2 Square steel tubing and welded it to what you see here, i also used 4 1/2in bolts to attach it to the frame. I hope this helps!

If I ever pull the trigger on getting a winch, this is how I want to do it. I do not like the idea of hauling all the weight around unless I am wheeling. It also gives you an easier opportunity to relocate the winch to the rear provided you put a power plug back there.

Thanks for sharing!

I also like how it braces the frame and gives it some added strength

Looks like a very nice looking installation, however it isn't the right solution for me.

I considered getting a receiver winch initially. I liked the idea of being able to move it from the front to the rear, but the winch and winch carrier weighs 104 lbs (see Warn XD9000i Mulit-mount :link: , although you could reduce the weight by about ~17 lbs by switching to synthetic winch line, it would still be ~86 lbs). What worried me the most, was if I ever needed the winch when it was just my wife and I out in desert! I don't think she would be much help and carrying 86 lbs over rough terrain and inserting it into the receiver by myself seemed like the formula for a hernia (I'm not as young, strong or stupid as I used to be – well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad). On top of that I'd need find a place to stow and secure the winch/carrier when not in use.
