HMMWV HLON/ZEUS Directed energy beam/laser system.

Seems like a pretty impressive platform for dealing with IED's and mines, 300m range and can be fired 2000 times a day to remotely explode ordinance.

Don't know what a piece of debris is on the side of the road or if an animal carcass is a bomb... zap it with the laser...

So this is the modern-day Zeus, throwing bolts of "lightning" at his enemies...

Hopefully this means that AMG wont discontinue the HMMWV

AMG won't discontinue the HMMWV until the military stops buying them. O, they did ... never mind!

The problem with Zeus is it requires a clear line of sight to the ordnance. They started burying the IED's underground a couple years ago. Still I think Zeus has an application somewhere on the battlefield, just not sure where.

The hard part of the IED problem is the standoff detection sensors. Once you find them you can send in a bomb disposal robot (that costs orders of magnitude less than Zeus) to dispose of it. So Zeus is a program that spends a lot of tax payers money solving a problem that doesn't exist. Typical!

I could use one of those for solving traffic issues out here.
