The topic of roof racks for H3’s seems to come up regularly so I have created a guide of what options are still available for the H3s. I’d like this thread be a reference for members so those with any rack post up pictures and write a review. Also could replies be kept to reviews or information from vendors. thanks

H3 Specific Racks

Gobi Racks

Gobi is considered by most to be the top roof rack available for the H3. Gobi racks are made of fully welded tubing and have traversable expanded metal decking and are finished in an epoxy powder undercoating with a textured black powder coated top coat. All versions of the Rack have 4 light mounting tabs in the front and two in the rear except the short rack which only has the two rear brackets. 1 1/8” tubes are welded into the rack allowing for Yakima or Thule accessories to be attached.

I currently have the Garvrin Wilderness sport series rack. I like that the rack is light weight, I'm guessing in the 35-45lbs range. It has a low profile design so I can still fit in parking structures and has an aerodynamic front. I have not noticed any wind noise from the rack but it has had wind deflector installed. I like that they make yakima adapters so I can mount my kayak saddles to the rack. The modular design of the rack also made it easy to mount brackets to hold my ARB awning.
What i don't like about the rack is that the floor is modular and the bars do not extend all the way to the front and back of the rack leaving a dead space at either end. The bars also sit up about an inch from the bottom effectively making the rack shallower.

Great thread, GOBI has a new short rack for the H3.

Short-Frt.jpg

http://www.gobihummer.com/H3.htm

I had a yakima gear basket that attached to the oem cross rails. Looked good, was easy to take off, and had mounts for a shovel and hi-lift jack.

The hi-lift made a lot of noise when mounted, probably would have been less if I actually put stuff in the basket. It was a good removable basket for a decent price. You could also mount a bike rack, ski rack to the rails built into the basket.

those are some nice racks  I love the gobi and the 2nd spare is nice to have. The only issue with the spare is the higher center of gravity. I get concerned of the COG when I tackle tougher off camber trails or if I ever lift mine. It also might be me overreacting too and it may not make much of a difference, who knows....

Cbetts' rack is also looks great too. It really gave him that rugged offroad look.

I have the Yakima load warrior; the mega was too large, in my opinion (lengthwise). Also, stopped using the factory, flexible POS cross bars and installed a pair of Yakima towers and steel cross bars. The stock bars would flex when loaded on a dirt or rough road and bang against the roof. The Yakima bars hardley flex at all.

And it is at my local dealer, although it seams a bit over priced and under built to me.

Is that plastic in the corners holding it together?

I also worry about wind noise. Wouldn't want to drown out the tire howl!

Amstar/Boulder Accessories Roof Rack
(Not Available from Retailers any longer)

Black powder coated, all aluminum construction, weighs approximately 80 lbs.

Comes in two pieces and has TONS of places to tie stuff down.

I've been very happy with mine.

I have a Rola for my T and it is the perfect size for the shorter roof...it's loud as heck on the road though.

The Warrior rack looks good. They are just down the street from me. A few years ago they made some shackles available to us H3 owners. There was talk of trying to get them to make more products for the H3, but they weren't interested.

Here are some pics of my Knight Metal Works H3 expedition rack. It was custom made by Scarsman. It has multiple tie down points in the cargo area, a hi-lift jack mount, two removable ammo boxes, and room for 4 6x9 KC lights up front.

More pics and ordering info is available here: http://www.knightmetalworks.com/pages/main_site/home.html
