Holes in Front Skid plate

Has anyone seen something like this before and know why they are there?

I don't see a reason for the holes, it is not factory that way and I can imagine that improves airflow that much. Those holes would probably weaken the aluminum skid plate to the point that it might bend pretty badly if hit against rocks offroad.

Hasn't bent yet. I now the skid plate didn't come standard with holes, but they're so precision drilled or cut. I was wondering if any one had seen it before.

They maybe evenly spaced, but I think it weakened the skid where I added the red circles.
