Reloader, Jerry, Jason, Brad and the Mrs. did a short run on Sycamore Creek trail yesterday, NE of Phoenix. This is a scenic trail and was used for Hummer dealer events, at least when the trail was a bit milder. Typically, it's not too difficult of a trail but it's always slippery with decomposed granite on top of granite. Traction can be difficult and picking the wrong line could have significant consequences.
Jason just picked up a 2016 JK with a 4" Mopar lift, so this was it's maiden run.
Jerry coming up the first hill. This is rutted and slippery all the way up.
Pictures don't often do justice to the steepness or challenge of an obstacle, so this 2009 picture show what can happen here
Jason coming up, using the flex to his advantage
Brad & the Mrs. at the top
Jerry on a optional climb
This hill was nasty coming down. I came down first and was over a bit from where Jason is here and slid over about 15" or more straight into the wall. Luckily the mirror folded back and the rear fenders have a lot of give, as I was on them hard. Considering the grinding noise I heard I thought I was going to leave the fenders on the trail. There were already pieces of broken tail light there from other vehicles.
Except when the tires were on the rocks, everything else coming down as simply a controlled slide.
Here are some of my fender scratches. Good gouges. That light blue is actually just a piece of sticker that came off earlier.
