Been reading some great articles on http://www.expeditionportal.com . I would love to make a trip this summer to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this summer. Would be cool to drive through Wisconsin, cross Lake Michigan on a ferry, and travel down the western coast of the lake, maybe taking 4-5 days and camping along the way. I think this would make a great group trip. just think....driving backroads, log trails and untraveled dirt roads for a week. Anyone else up for this?

Sounds like a fun trip. The UP is really pretty, fall would be a great time to go as well. There is something special about a ferry boat full of Hummers on the Great Lakes. Had a good time going to Drummond Island a few years back. Wish I still lived up there, I would go in a heart beat!

That sounds awesome. I've done the U.P. before in my Suburban....long before I ever owned a Hummer.

I'm trekking from Indy to Bayfield, WI in August and I'll be camping along the way. Anybody in WI got some camping/wheeling suggestions? I googled it, and all I found was a bunch of chatter about how WI is pretty much the most anti-offroad state in the union.

yeah WI only really has one trail called the pipe line near Crivitz. The state is working on establishing a trail system that connects to the UP trails but you know how fast the gov is. If you want to do some offroading besides the pipe line or the one or two 4x4 parks, it will have to be done on the logging roads. The only issue with that is it takes a lot of homework to put a route together. The state really has some great places so it is puzzling that they do not take advantage of the 4x4 tourism.

I will be watching the thread. I think maybe a Drummond Island Trip would be awesome. Maybe we can all set something up for this June... Been there, done that and it is awesome. Trails from mild to hard..
